Covers lift off their seats - the gearbox inspection plate, the bearing cap, the turbine's upper casing, the binnacle hood, the dynamo's brush gear. Working parts travel the way the real machine works them: the lathe carriage down its bed, the mill table across its saddle, the drill quill down into the work, the vice jaw closing, the hydraulic rod out of its gland, the telescope draw tube extending. Instruments read their scales - the pressure gauge needle, the thermometer pointer, the barometer hand moving off its set hand, the rotameter float rising in its tapered tube.
