Sometimes the silent piece in a whole, the blob undoubtedly has its place in UI design whether we notice it or not. They can serve many purposes, to fill in empty space, to create separations, to add visual variety, a sense of fluidity, and more. While they may be simple, they can be the enhancements to your design that you didn’t know you needed.
Without realizing, you probably come across the blob at least a dozen times a day (now we’ve said it, we bet you’ll start noticing them more now).
SVG Blobs
Want to make SVG blobs? You can try out Blobmaker and Blobs to generate random blob shapes of varying complexity and colors.
If you’re a Figma user, then there are the plugins Blobs and Make blob that you can open up right within Figma to create SVG blobs that you can then choose to manipulate further if you wish.
Animated Lottie Blobs
Animation can bring some much-needed life into a design. Sometimes you may only want a subtle bit of movement, almost like your app or page is breathing, and that’s where an animated Lottie blob comes in. As long as you’ve got your blobs moving at the right speed, there’s an almost mesmerising feel in the movement and momentum, which can prove incredible calming.
When it comes to making an animated Lottie blob, it can require some skill in After Effects. But fear not, there are some Lottie blobs made by some talented animators that you can use for free on LottieFiles. We’ve collected a few of them below. 👇
