ET Money is a personal finance platform focused on simplifying the financial journey for retail consumers. Founded by a team of entrepreneurs, IIT alumni, and designers with deep expertise in technology and finance, ET Money aims to empower users by reimagining financial services through mobile technology, design, and data. The platform offers tools and resources to help users manage their money, make informed investment decisions, and achieve financial wellness.

The Challenge: Increasing User Engagement

In a recent ET Money feature update, they wanted to elevate the onboarding experience with engaging animations and ultimately drive conversion rates, as well as better communicate the benefits of their offerings.

However, app performance was slowed down because of their reliance on existing static graphics and GIFs, which resulted in CTR averaging between 2% and 3%. To increase interaction, they decided to seek out an animation solution that could balance visual impact and performance efficiency.

The Solution: Lightweight Lottie Animations

Turning to Lottie animations and the LottieFiles platform, ET Money was focused on enhancing their mobile experience without compromising app speed. This shift resulted in lightweight, JSON-based animations that loaded quickly and enhanced engagement, making onboarding smoother and more enjoyable for users.

This is where LottieFiles proved effective as designers could create animations in Adobe After Effects, while also using LottieFiles to quickly preview and tweak them within the app environment—allowing for real-time feedback between design and development. The update saw higher completion rates as the animations simplified complex steps, ultimately contributing to a more successful onboarding experience and an improved user retention rate on the ET Money platform.

“Lottie’s JSON-based format allowed us to bring complex animations to life without compromising performance, which was especially beneficial in our mobile applications,” said Interaction Designer at ET Money, Jayant Mandan.

Additionally, to tackle the challenge of cross-selling on the home screen, an immersive banner on the home screen was created using Lottie animations. This innovative approach was tailored to capture user attention and improve conversion by making key offerings more engaging.

The Result: Impressive CTR and Improved Workflow with LottieFiles

The results were clear and impactful. By replacing static visuals with Lottie animations, ET Money achieved a substantial improvement in engagement, as the home screen’s CTR rose between 8% and 9%, even reaching a peak of 11%.

This significant jump demonstrated the effectiveness of lightweight, interactive Lottie animations in capturing user attention and enhancing engagement. Lottie animations also contributed to a smoother onboarding experience, simplifying complex steps and resulting in higher completion rates that bolstered user retention overall.

“We chose Lottie for its ability to deliver high-quality animations in a lightweight, JSON format, making it ideal for mobile apps where performance and user experience are top priorities,” said Jayant Mandan.

In addition to that, LottieFiles Team and Enterprise plan’s features offered key benefits for ET Money, including:

  • Centralized asset management: Easy access to all animation assets in one private workspace managed to improve consistency and save time.

  • Streamlined collaboration: Real-time feedback and editing sped up the team’s workflow and enhanced final outputs.

  • Security: Private workspaces protected sensitive and unreleased animations.

  • Version control: Access to version history reduced rework and kept projects on track.

Broader Impact on User Performance

Beyond the CTR boost, adopting Lottie animations together with LottieFiles led to additional performance gains:

  • Time savings: Streamlined workflows reduced production time by 40%, enabling faster design iterations.

  • Higher engagement: Interactive animations led to increased user retention and session duration.

  • Conversion uplift: Guided, animated experiences improved conversions and user onboarding.

  • Cost efficiency: Lightweight animations lowered data costs and improved app performance.

  • Stakeholder approval: Enhanced visuals received positive feedback, reinforcing product-market fit.

  • Stronger brand perception: Animations elevated ET Money’s brand image, driving loyalty in a competitive market.

ET Money’s Earn platform also benefited from Lottie animations to guide users in comparing Fixed Deposits, P2P lending, and Equity investments. By visually simplifying these comparisons, the animations received positive user feedback, helping to drive conversions in this product vertical.

A Transformative Journey

The integration of Lottie animations through LottieFiles proved transformative for ET Money. It helped increase CTR significantly and improve user engagement across the board.

“The project’s success has reshaped our approach to prioritize animations as key engagement tools. Lottie’s impact on conversions validated our focus on lightweight, interactive design, leading us to incorporate Lottie animations early in new projects to enhance both user experience and business goals,” said Jayant Mandan.

By making key touchpoints more interactive and accessible, ET Money not only enhanced the user experience but also solidified ET Money’s brand reputation as a forward-thinking, user-centered platform.
