Reflection – plane mirror – angles of incidences and reflection - Explanation

Reflection – plane mirror – angles of incidences and reflection For a plane mirror, the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence.

When light ray shines onto a plane mirror, the angle it makes with the normal (a line drawn perpendicular to the mirror at the point the light hits hit) is known as the angle of incidence. This ray will then reflect back off the mirror, and the angle this reflected ray makes with the normal is known as the angle of reflection.

For regular reflection the angle of incidence is always equal to the angle of incidence.
